LINICS 1.01 Released
We're proud to announce the wide release of LINICS®, our new Linux® based distribution for pen testing ICS systems and networks!
After an early release to in-person attendees of our recent bootcamps, we have now made LINICS available for anyone to download and use.
There is a continuing shortage of cyber security professionals as highlighted by DSIT (UK Department for Science, Innovation and technology) reports. However, the cyber skills shortage is even more acute when it comes to OT. Those aiming to enter cyber in IT security have ready access to tools, e.g., Kali Linux, as well as online resources. Similar resources are lacking for OT and, where they exist, they are not suitable for entry level professionals.
LINICS was developed as a resource for testing and training in ICS security, funded by a grant provided to Hacktonics as part of the Innovate UK Cyber Local programme. As well as the initial development, Hacktonics has a plan to continually develop and maintain LINICS to further expand the included toolset.
LINICS includes a number of specialised ICS security tools including those developed by Hacktonics. It also includes some general purpose IT security tools that are often used in OT security. LINICS directly addresses the lack of easy to deploy and use OT security tools by locating them in one distribution. In particular, legacy tools are containerised, ensuring that dependencies which are no longer supported, such as older versions of Python, are usable by the tools without affecting the stability or security of the wider system.
All tools included in LINICS are mapped to MiTRE ATT&CK® for ICS for users to easily navigate through the various stages of attack and impact.
LINICS is a free resource for use by the community and we welcome people to get in touch with us to contribute tools to it.
Go to LINICS in the menu, or click the button below, to find out more and download your own copy to try!
